August 18 Krystal 93 Colorado Fishing Report
August 18th, 2011
GOOD MORNING SUMMIT COUNTY, I’M ANDREW WITH THE COLORADO ANGLER AND THIS IS YOUR HIGH COUNTRY FISHING REPORT FOR THURSDAY, AUGUST 18TH.
AS THE SUMMER WINDS DOWN AND FLOWS CONTINUE TO GRADUALLY DECLINE IT’S A GOOD TIME FOR ANGLERS TO CHECK OUT AREAS THAT HAVE BEEN OUT OF THE MIX BECAUSE OF CONDITIONS THAT LIMIT ACCESS.
ONE SUCH RIVER IS THE ARKANSAS BETWEEN GRANITE AND STONE BRIDGE. GENERALLY CONSIDERED A RAFTING RIVER IN THE SUMMER, THIS STRETCH OF THE ARK IS OFTEN OVERLOOKED BY FISHERMEN THAT ARE LOOKING TO AVOID CONFLICT WITH THE HIGH NUMBER OF BOATERS WATER FIGHTING THEIR WAY DOWN THE RIVER.
WITH FLOWS AND TRAFFIC DOWN TO OFF-SEASON LEVELS, THIS STRETCH OF WATER BECOMES A FANTASTIC OPTION FOR ANGLERS. ON TOP OF THAT, THESE FISH HAVEN’T FELT ANY REAL PRESSURE IN OVER 3 MONTHS. THERE ARE MILES OF PUBLIC WATER ACCESS TO EXPLORE AND THE BROWN TROUT ARE EAGER TO PILE ON CALORIES BEFORE THE IMPENDING SPAWN. GIVE IT A TRY WITH A DRY-DROPPER RIG ANCHORED WITH A STIMULATOR OR PARACHUTE MADAM X AND BELOW THE SURFACE USE BEAD HEAD PHEASANT TAILS, HOT WIRE PRINCE AND A MIX OF BAETIS NYMPHS SHOULD DO THE TRICK.
