August 28 Krystal 93 Colorado Fishing Report
August 28th, 2011
GOOD MORNING SUMMIT COUNTY, I’M ANDREW WITH THE COLORADO ANGLER AND THIS IS YOUR HIGH COUNTRY FISHING REPORT FOR SUNDAY, AUGUST 28TH.
ALRIGHT NOW THAT THE EXCITEMENT OF THE BIG RACE HAS PASSED, WE CAN GET BACK TO UNENCUMBERED FISHING.
TRY THE EAGLE RIVER FROM WOLCOTT DOWN TO EAGLE, WHERE ACTION HAS BEEN GOOD ON A MIX OF OPTIONS BOTH DRY AND NYMPH, WITH A LIGHT CLOUD COVER LOOK FOR A STRONG BAETIS PRESENCE MID-DAY. GIVE IT A TRY WITH JUJUBAETIS AND TUNGSTEN SPLIT CASE BAETIS NYMPHS AND IF ANY ADULTS START TO EMERGE SWITCH OVER TO A GULPHER SPECIAL OR SPARKLE BAETIS. IF THE SUN IS MORE DOMINANT, STICK WITH THE BAETIS NYMPHS, BUT SWITCH OVER TO CADDIS FOR THE SURFACE ACTIVITY.
DOWN ALONG THE ARKANSAS, ANGLERS CONTINUE TO ENJOY EXCELLENT FISHING WITH TERRESTRIAL AND AQUATIC INSECTS ALIKE. START WITH A HOPPER DROPPER SET UP TRAILING A HOT WIRE CADDIS NYMPH, BUT MANY ANGLERS HAVE HAD SUCH GOOD SURFACE ACTIVITY THAT YOU MAY WANT TO CUT THE NYMPH OFF. THERE ARE PLENTY OF ACCESS POINTS ALONG THE RIVER SO IF YOU FIND TOO MANY CARS AT HAYDEN MEADOWS, JUST DRIVE DOWN STREAM A COUPLE MORE MILES WHERE YOU MAY HAVE THE RIVER TO YOURSELF.
