August 22 Krystal 93 Colorado Fishing Report
August 22nd, 2011
GOOD MORNING SUMMIT COUNTY, I’M ANDREW WITH THE COLORADO ANGLER AND THIS IS YOUR HIGH COUNTRY FISHING REPORT FOR MONDAY, AUGUST 22ND.
“WHAT A GREAT WEEKEND OF FISHING AND IF YOU WERE OUT ON THE WATER.” THAT WAS A SENTIMENT SHARED BY MANY ANGLERS WHO WERE ENJOYING ONE OF THE LAST DAYS OF SUMMER. OUR STELLAR WEATHER LOOKS TO CONTINUE AND PROVIDE MORE OF THE SAME.
DOWN BELOW GREEN MOUNTAIN THE BLUE RIVER HAS DROPPED TO ITS LOWEST LEVEL IN OVER 3 MONTHS , AT JUST UNDER 400 CFS, FLOATING IS PRETTY MUCH DONE WHICH LEAVES THE CANYON TO THE FEW ANGLERS THAT HIKE IN EACH DAY, AND AT THIS LEVEL, A STRONG ANGLER MAY BE ABLE TO CROSS OVER AND ACCESS ADDITIONAL WATER TO FISH. THERE ARE STILL A FEW OF THE SUMMER BUGS AROUND BUT LOOK FOR THE BAETIS TO START TO TAKE OVER. GIVE IT A TRY WITH TUNGTEASERS, HOT WIRE PRINCES AND JUJUBAETIS. THEY CAN BE FISHED AS A STANDARD NYMPH RIG OR UNDER A CHUBBY CHERNOBYL HOPPER OR SIMILAR.
IF YOU HAVE A FONDNESS FOR DRIES, TRY WORKING THE POCKETS AND RIFFLES WITH A DOUBLE DRY RIG ANCHORED WITH AN ATTRACTOR SUCH AS A TRUDE FOLLOWED WITH A BETTER FOAM CADDIS OR PARACHUTE ADAMS.
