August 9 Krystal 93 Colorado Fishing Report
August 09th, 2011
GOOD MORNING SUMMIT COUNTY, I’M ANDREW WITH THE COLORADO ANGLER AND THIS IS YOUR HIGH COUNTRY FISHING REPORT FOR TUESDAY, AUGUST 9TH.
THE UPPER COLORADO IN THE PARSHALL AREA HAS FINALLY RETURNED TO A SOLID WADE FISHING OPTION. FLOWS ARE STILL A LITTLE ABOVE AVERAGE, BUT THEY ARE CLEAR AND SAFE TO WADE. AND THE BONUS IS THAT FISHING PRESSURE HAS BEEN NON-EXISTENT, MAKING THE FISH ALL THAT MUCH MORE WILLING TO FEED WITH LITTLE REGARD FOR SELECTIVITY. NYMPH FISHING REMAINS THE MORE PRODUCTIVE APPROACH BUT AS FLOWS CONTINUE TO DROP, SURFACE ACTIVITY SHOULD IMPROVE.
ON MONDAY DENVER WATER STARTED TO DIVERT WATER THROUGH THE ROBERTS TUNNEL ON ITS WAY TO DENVER, WHICH IS GREAT NEWS FOR WADE FISHERMEN ALONG THE BLUE. AS WATER IS DIVERTED IT WILL REDUCE THE AMOUNT IN THE RIVER, BY THE END OF THE WEEK THAT WILL AMOUNT TO ABOUT HALF OF WHAT WAS IN THE RIVER AT THE START OF THE WEEK. THIS SHOULD RESULT IN A VERY COMFORTABLE LEVEL FOR WADE FISHING, AND AS LONG AS IT CONTINUES TO FLOW OVER THE TOP OF THE DAM WATER TEMPS WILL REMAIN WARM ENOUGH TO CONTINUE THE FANTASTIC DRY FLY ACTION OUT THERE RIGHT NOW.
